My First Project Pan

For someone who loves compiling Empties posts, I can’t believe that I’ve never planned a Project Pan and documented it! In my mind, there were a few items that I had wanted to empty out last year or at least use more of however this never got achieved so again, some of the items remain collecting dust.

Nevermind being a beauty blogger – I mean I am not really invested in that title, but as someone who has spent money on lots of items, I ought to be more responsible in using up the products unless it is really bad. So here’s my attempt at being more responsible this year and less of a hoarder!

The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution

60% left to be used

I don’t know what it is but I just don’t naturally reach for this. It took me a long time to open this and when I finally did, I didn’t find myself being excited enough to use it. It’s not actually a bad product per se but is it comparable to Pixi Glow Tonic? No – in my opinion, it isn’t. But then again, I’ve yet to use it consistently so I’ll let you know how it fares in the next couple of months.

Superdrug Calm Skin Moisturising Serum

20% left to be used

I originally bought this because I remember reading someone’s blog and they had said some good things about this particular range by Superdrug. I rather like their Vitamin E range so it was in my interest to try this other range too. I do actually like this product but I find it a bit difficult to fit into a routine unless it is very simple because it can pill up post-serum stage. It is versatile though in the sense that it can be used as a moisturising primer – I wouldn’t say it’s tacky but it adds that nice slip to the skin. I’m confident that I’ll be able to use this up!

Charlotte Tilbury Instant Look in a Palette

Can we hit pan this year?

A palette! Well, this one is going to be a challenge and if there is any shade that will hit pan this year, it’ll be the contour shade since it’s the only one I own/use other than my Sleek palette. This product is probably one of the biggest investments I’ve made within beauty but it has been SO worth it. It just helps bring my face to life without overdoing it and it is so travel-friendly. I have to say that I don’t use the brown ‘blush’ much since I have to use a very light-hand but perhaps I should find a day where I use the entire palette for one whole look?

Bobbi Brown Concealer

90% left to be used

I bought this randomly in Hong Kong. It is one of my only concealers that I use for concealing spots and imperfections but to be honest, I hardly deal with this step. I would find this a bit thick to apply under the eyes so in a lot of ways, it’s going to be difficult to pan this one. We’ll just have to see!

NYX Liquid Lingerie Lipsticks

50% left to be used (this is an approximation considering how much I use these…I would be happy to use up any one of the colours this year!)

I own three different shades: Push-up, Ruffle Trim and Exotic. I find these beautiful on the lip albeit I apply them over lip balm to achieve the best results. The applicator on these are quite weird however I’ve gotten used to this now…how should I put it? It’s not fluffy but more of a long and flat doe foot applicator. The reason I love these is its lasting power. Yes, quite a bit comes off after I drink coffee but I’ll still have some amount of colour on my lip which I can’t say is the case for practically all my other lip products that I own. (Bare in mind that I don’t own any other liquid lipsticks to date.)

Laura Mercier Oil-free Tinted Moisturiser

80% left to be used

The thing is, I do actually really like this product but the unfortunate thing is the shade is wrong for me! The shade range is rather weird – I got colour tested in-store and the lightest shade was too light for me so I thought to get the next shade up. For a shade that’s the second lightest, it is actually very dark – probably verging on orange on my fair-light skin. I’m going to have to use this to contour my face it seems if I’m to touch this at all this year. I’ve yet to figure it out but I think with a lot of patience and blending, this method could work. Any tips are welcome, of course.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation

50% left to be used

Anyone who’s been following me long enough knows that this is one of my go-to foundations! I actually haven’t touched this since last summer and as it stands, have one back-up of this which was gifted by one of my best friends on my birthday. I gained a few new makeup base favourites in the past year so it would be interesting to see if I still feel the same way about this foundation? I will look to pick it for use end of February since I’m in the middle of testing/reviewing another drugstore foundation.

Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask

30% left to be used

If there is one product that I’d be very happy to finish, it would actually be this one because it’s so old (I’m sure it’s still in good condition but I’ll check again). I originally got this as part of a gift set one Christmas. It smells really nice and is great if your skin needs hydration but not the type that feels like you’re just rubbing liquids on your face. Having said that, I do prefer the overnight masks that are of thinner consistency than this one so it’s quite unlikely that I will repurchase this again. I find this slightly tacky on the skin (although it gives it a nice slip) BUT during the winter months, this can be quite the lifesaver. Ask for a sample if you can.

There are probably a few others that I could add to this Project Pan but I thought that it would be wise to start small (and realistic). I hope you’re all enjoying your Saturday so far? I’ve just finished making some banana pancakes this morning! 🙂 Join me tomorrow for another post.

Products & Brands I Want to Try in 2020

I don’t think I have written this type of post before which is probably why there are still so many products and brands that I haven’t tried. (Baring in mind, a good half of them are also unavailable to me although Boots have recently expanded their range – more below.)

The brand I tried out the most last year has to be Revolution – both their makeup and skincare. I am looking to write about their skincare line once I have gotten through the entire haul but for now, let’s tap into other new products and brands that I want to try out at some point this year!

Fenty Beauty – the Gloss Bomb in particular

Fenty Beauty Gloss Goalz Universal Lip Luminizer 3-pc set

I used to get a Christmas gift set for myself every year without fail. I didn’t bother with that in 2018 however in 2019, I saw that Fenty Beauty had the gloss trio which I so badly wanted to get. I did actually see it in-store one day in late-October/early-November and should have gotten the hint to get it then, because the next time I went in to try and nab it, it was sold out! I was actually very gutted about this! However, I’m confident that this will be released again during the holiday season. I am tempted to get an individual lipgloss but this is very much dependent on if I finish some lip products this year. (Project Pan post to come soon.)

Physicians Formula – the Butter Bronzer in particular

Physician’s Formula Murumuru Butter Bronzer

This brand has been available in my local Boots since early Autumn but each and every time that I have tried to see if the Murumuru Butter Bronzer is there, it is ALWAYS sold-out. I’m actually getting a little dubious – is it sold-out or have they not re-stocked? I have gone on so many trips after work to try and get my hands on this but…no luck.

I never used to bronze at all but now it’s one of my favourite steps next to applying blush. I would love to be able try this out soon for sure so wish me luck in seeing its existence next time I’m in Boots!

More NYX lip products!

NYX Powder Puff Lippie in Teacher’s Pet

It took me a while to get into NYX but once I tapped into their Liquid Lingerie Lipsticks since Spring time, there was no going back – I had found my perfect lip colour! I don’t think there are any more shades that I want to get from said line but I would be interested in trying their other lip lines. For example, the Lip Powder Puff Lippie looks interesting and actually, I have never tried such a product so I would be curious to know what the formula is like!

NYX Butter Gloss in Creme Brulee

I have also wanted to try the Butter Glosses for a while now too! Creme Brulee, Madeleine and Tiramisu are my colour-picks but this could change once I swatch them in-store.

Is there anything that you would recommend for me to try from NYX?

More Makeup Revolution makeup

Makeup Revolution Loose Baking Powder in Lace

I mainly own makeup palettes from Makeup Revolution so it would be nice to finally try some of their other individual products. Actually I have a green concealer from them which I haven’t opened yet but what I’m really thinking about is perhaps a new powder? I’d be interested to pick up their loose powders and see if they’re a hot contender or not.

BareMinerals Complexion Rescue

Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue

I want to say that this product was very popular especially with beauty youtubers around 2015/2016? If I am correct, I am incredibly late on this so-called bandwagon. But like almost everything else, I don’t really follow trends. I tend to buy things after it has passed its ‘trend’. Ever since I discovered the IT Cosmetics CC Cream, I have seldom used my foundations which could be both a good and bad thing. This year, I would like to tap into more of these types of easy-to-use base products. If you have tried this product before, what are your thoughts overall?

Mario Badescu Skincare

Mario Badescu Essentials Kit

I keep saying to myself that I will buy their skincare set but it never materialises into any purchase because I have to get myself into Urban Outfitters first which I don’t actively shop in. For those who follow me on Instagram, you’ll know through my stories that I have two different skincare routines. I could probably do without a new cleanser and moisturiser this year because I have a queue for both product categories however I’d be happy to try anything else in-between from Mario Badescu! Perhaps you could recommend something? Let me know.

That’s it for the products and brands I want to try this year! There is probably more but I think it’s a healthy list to start on.

Catch up with me on Friday for my first ever Project Pan post! Enjoy the rest of the week. 🙂

Some changes.

Hi everyone.

This is just a quick announcement post to let you know of the (positive) changes that I’m putting forward on this blog!

I’ve been blogging (kinda) consistently for a good 3-4 years now and I feel that it’s finally time for it to move into a new chapter. I lost momentum with blogging/writing in the latter-half of last year and there’s really no excuse for this except to say that I didn’t keep up with it. I was even surprised to see I had as many views as I did in a couple of those months! But the truth is, I didn’t have a writing plan. A lot of posts I’ve written up until this New Year have been written days before upload. Sometimes even hours before upload. What does keep me going with this blog though is the fact that I do enjoy writing.

I’ve set some new goals for this year and one of them does concern the blog. I honestly feel that it’s time for a re-birth and re-growth where I discuss topics that I’ve always wanted to discuss and perhaps move the blog into a slightly different direction. Of course, I will continue to write about skincare and beauty however this will steer a slightly different direction too.

I have decided to forfeit my Favourites post-series entirely. Writing them just doesn’t excite me anymore and sort of feels unrealistic. I don’t even profess to use new products on a monthly basis and honestly? All my beauty routines have been the same for the past few months because I know what I like and what my style is. Ultimately, I think forfeiting this series will give me more freedom to write about other things that concern routine for example which would be more realistic and probably serve more useful to you. Plus, I’m in the state-of-mind of not buying as much as I used to because my collection is more than enough for me. This seriously does not need to expand and I’m sure I’m not the only beauty blogger who is thinking like this.

So far, I have the entire month of January planned out and I can’t believe how much easier this has made blogging! (As in, I know what posts I’ll be putting forward on my post-days. They are not all scheduled yet.) This is my newly revised schedule at this moment:

Tuesdays: Lifestyle and Fashion

Fridays: Beauty and Make-up/Review

Sundays: Self-care, Mental Health, Advice-giving/Tips, Discussions

Note: The exception will be this week and next week since I’m in the middle of doing a big re-schedule. After that, the schedule should fully take place! 🙂

That’s really it for today but just thought you should all know.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

Lately on Netflix #5

One of my favourite ventures has been writing about what shows I’ve been diving into on Netflix – some experimental, some anticipated and some that are pure guilty pleasures (i.e. you know it’s bad but it’s just so good).

A couple of these were streamed a few months ago actually whilst some others are very recent. I’m onto a new series now called Mindhunter but feel free to recommend me any series/films that you think I should check out! Enjoy.

Rhythm and Flow

I like some hip hop but I don’t traditionally listen to the music enough to know about all the artists involved so it was interesting to watch this and meet some of the producers behind-the-scenes! Besides that, I loved how hilarious Cardi B was throughout the series – her one-liners just crack me up. (I’m not necessarily a huge fan of her music but I love her personality – she’s one of a kind!)

Rhythm and Flow is a rap competition that seeks to find new artists to sign across 3 different auditioning venues: Chicago, Atlanta and New York. Judges Cardi B, Chance the Rapper and TI come together to discover some hot new talent and honestly, it was so fun seeing everything from the audition stages to the rap battle challenge down to the music video challenge and final performances. I was really happy with the winner overall.

American Made

I’m not a fan of Tom Cruise (mainly because of the whole Scientology thing) but I do enjoy watching his films. I viewed this right at the beginning of Fall on my TV and it’s such a good story spanning a good couple of years. It is essentially about a man and how he becomes a drugs and arms smuggler. I really like the way they shot this film because it wasn’t too serious or too dark – there were some really funny and light-hearted moments that were a little ridiculous but it made the story more real and somehow relatable. If you like this type of genre re: drugs/crime but don’t like how serious or repetitive it can get, I’d recommend this one to you!

Horrible Bosses

I actually watched this on Halloween weekend, haha! Surprisingly, it was my first ever time watching this (I know, I know) and I thought it was great. Probably a bit of an elephant-in-the-room topic but it’s such a genius and relatable concept. I totally recommend this if you’re looking for a laugh-out-loud comedy to watch.

Queer Eye We’re in Japan!

I don’t think I need to introduce how wholesome the Queer Eye series and the Queer Eye guys are but I do. I do, I do, I do. Growing up, I absolutely loved watching transformation shows but there is just something very endearing about the Fab 5. One thing that was apparent was that teaching self-love is just so universal and speaks volumes no matter where you are in the world and what language you speak.

Don’t F*** with Cats

This released before Christmas and I firmly remember it trending on Twitter one day. I didn’t think too much of it until my work friend recommended me to watch it the next day without actually knowing what it’s even about. It’s a documentary but will not be anything like you have seen before. If you’re super into documentaries and murder mysteries then I’d recommend this although at the same time, I have to pre-warn you that there may be triggering and graphic parts despite them blurring a lot of it. Definitely one of the best documentaries I’ve ever seen but prepare to be mind-blown.

Atypical (Season 3)

I was waiting for Season 3 of Atypical to come out for so long! I watched the first 2 seasons last fall and I just love how different this series is compared to all the other Netflix series I follow. For those who don’t know, Atypical follows Sam, a teenager who is on the spectrum, as he navigates through daily life. It is also just as much about his family and friends who navigate through life perhaps with the same problems as Sam, which I like to think is a comforting notion – we all go through similar problems!

Paige in particular, really grew on me this season.

YOU (Season 2)

If you have not heard about this, where have you been??

Definitely the biggest WTF series in forever. (My tastes have changed greatly since my teens.) That climax from episode 8 right through to the finale was crazy. Season 2 continues to follow Joe as he moves to LA with a new…identity and new life. It’s an outlook on whether his previous identity, his real identity, will catch up on him after all karma is a bitch, right? I know the opinions for season 2 are quite split – my friend for example felt the pacing was slow overall. I know what he means but I personally had no problem with this because it’s important not to repeat similar events like in season 1 even if the characters are entirely different. What has always propelled the show forward for me is listening to Joe’s psyche. Perhaps controversial but yes, I am still conflicted about his character which makes the discussions SO interesting.

I have posted a good couple of these posts in the past year. I’m going to take a break from them along with My Current Playlist series as I tap into other post ideas! This year, I’m really looking to fill in the gaps of topics I have wanted to write about but haven’t gotten round to. 🙂

FYI I post every Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

My Current Playlist #3

For those unfamiliar to this series, I simply post 30 songs that I have been recently listening to in the past few weeks. My playlist can be very mixed as I tap into a lot of different genres as to avoid repeating what’s already being played on mainstream radio. Oh, and there are a few Christmas songs which are no longer relevant but were when I was compiling this list, haha! Enjoy. 🙂

Here are my top 30 picks as of recent:

  29. Rex Orange County – Face To Face
  30. AKMU – Will Last Forever

Note: I realise that this playlist is very Stormzy-heavy (pun unintended as his new album is literally called Heavy on the Head) but I have been vibing to his music for a good few weeks now!

What music do you listen to? Feel free to give me some recommendations!
