New Products I’m Currently Trying

How’s it going all? It’s a rainy weekend which means it’s an indoors type of day where I get to catch up on blogging!

I have been shopping quite a bit – probably a little too much for my own good but it’s been super fun. I’ve more or less racked up a new wardrobe however for today, I want to discuss some new products that I’ve been trying out lately that are “new” to me. I am terrible when it comes to actually being on-trend. I generally buy products on the whim or products that has been on my list for a while and well, here they are in all their glory…or not. You shall see.

New in Bodycare

I’ll start with my first disappointing piece because from memory, it is the oldest from my “new collection of things”. It is the Avene Mineral Fluid SPF50+. I bought this over a month ago – actually on my first week when I had just started my new job. Although I needed a new sunscreen, it was a completely random purchase because I had not heard of it before and you know what? I wish I had done my research. This stuff leaves a white cast and it is difficult to blend into the skin. It takes a lot of effort to rub in seamlessly. I have only managed to use this a handful of times and that’s strictly under foundation but I haven’t touched it in recent weeks. Not sure I will soon either.

Another old purchase is the Kiehl’s Creme de Corps although it was only last week when I officially started using this. Oh boy. This stuff is luxurious looking. Without looking at the ingredients list, you just know that there are good things in this bottle. I don’t use this everyday simply because I want to savour it, nor do I use this for my whole body but it’s definitely a must-try. Beautiful.

Is anyone else’s skin getting rather irritated since this heatwave happened? Because mine has and that is the sole reason why summer will never be my favourite. My hands in particular have gotten a bit dry which is unusual because I don’t normally suffer from dry hands. However gross fact: my hands can sweat quite bad in hot weather and it’s not pretty. Hence, over-washing them. Palmer’s Coconut Oil Hand Cream has saved my hands and to add to that, it smells wonderful! An example of a random purchase that became a good surprise.

Having enjoyed the hand cream so much, it seemed only right to buy the Palmer’s Coconut Oil Body Lotion too as I had just finished an Aveeno lotion. I like the original Cocoa version too but I find that the scent is too sweet and strong for me. The coconut smell of this is sweet too but I just find it more forgiving – what do you think? The formula of this is easier to rub into the skin too.

Note: I tend to not like chocolate-scented things or chocolate-flavoured things unless it is the real thing itself.

Now the last few things for bodycare…

I went quite mad in buying lotions and potions because my eczema has been set off again and I blame it on the hot weather. Eucerin is a trusty brand that I go to for that special type of lotion that protects your skin and keeps it from drying out. It’s a little pricey but I just wait for the 3 for 2 offer at Boots or otherwise. (Otherwise being: I’m desperate and need this product as a last solution to my problems.)

Eucerin Intensive Lotion 10% w/w Cutaneous Emulsion is a re-purchase and a favourite of mine. It’s unusual because it’s odourless and rubs in as a colourless seal over the skin. I’ve talked about it before here in an old post.

Technically, I’m not trying this product out nor have I opened this new bottle. However there are two products from the brand which I want to show off.

The first is the Eucerin Ato Control Lotion. It is a non-greasy formula that rubs in lovely  – not too thick or too thin. A little goes a long way too. I have been using it for about a week or so and it has really helped in calming down flare-ups to the point of almost no-existence.

The second is the Eucerin Calming Urea Shampoo. I am really picky when it comes to shampoo but even the one I was using got too much for my hair and scalp. I decided to give this a try and whilst expensive, I really like it. It foams nicely – just enough so that there’s something and not that crazy chemical foam which makes you think “this cannot be good for my hair”. It’s a mild formula that actually cleans my hair and doesn’t irritate my scalp. I’m not sure if it’d be a re-purchase though simply because of the price.

New in Accessories

Only two products (or technically 11) in this category are new as I only just bought them recently from TK Maxx. Funny story – the systems were completely down  so all the cashiers had to resort to using a calculator, writing down every pricing on a manual paper receipt and using this very old-fashioned card swiper which I had never seen before! Needless to say, this was a long process.

I purchased a Tangle Teezer for a few pounds cheaper than its normal pricing. I don’t necessarily need a new brush but I thought I could do with one in my work bag rather than carrying a comb. Plus I’m keen to try this out. Any thoughts from you?

TK Maxx is the place I go to to surprise myself with products that I wouldn’t normally find anywhere else. Sometimes it’s a miss, other times it’s a hit. I came across a BH Cosmetics Sculpt and Blend 2 10 Piece Brush Set and although my brush collection has really increased this year, I had been looking to get a few more medium sized brushes so that I can carry them around to help touch up my makeup. I usually carry the same brush with me (the Real Techniques Contour Brush if you’re wondering) and I’m sure that’s unhygienic. Will try these later when I do my makeup – can’t wait!

New in Makeup

You’re probably gasping a bit and thinking “there’s more?”. There is more and even I am surprised myself. Who knew having a new job and subsequently getting paid could be so dangerous…ha!

I’ll start with the mascaras.

If you must know in short: they were a disappointment. It’s my fault because I’ve been through this before. I know that my short lashes don’t like big, fat mascara wands but I bought into the hype regardless. It’s even worse when the wands are fluffy!

My opinion runs similar for both mascaras. It doesn’t hold the curl for me and even over my trusted mascara primer (the Etude House Mascara one that I’ve been raving about months on end) is no good. What a waste. I might just donate these to my friends as I have only used each mascara maximum twice. I give up. FYI, they are the L’Oreal Lash Paradise and the Maybelline Total Temptation mascaras.

Moving onto better things, I have been using some new products that never get boring for me. In fact, they have moved into my everyday makeup routine. The first is the Bobbi Brown Blush in ‘Nude Peach‘*. I have become somewhat of a Bobbi Brown fiend in the past year and I just can’t fault the brand. I tried this particular shade in a counter makeover and loved it – just the flush of colour you need without being too much yet still giving you a glow. In the pan, it looks like nothing but on? Stunning.

The other huge favourite is the Bourjois Healthy Mix Pressed Powder in ‘52 Vanilla’ which I’ve hit pan on just yesterday! It’s really soft and whilst I haven’t tried that many powders in my experience, I personally prefer this to the Rimmel Stay Matte. It just never cakes on and the finish is particularly natural. I heard that this compares to Chanel’s powder which was why I bought it in the first place and whilst I can’t testify to that, it’s certainly a gem.

*For whatever reason I could not locate this on the website – I hope it’s not discontinued?!

New in Skincare

Last section!

Truthfully I’ve simplified my skincare a lot in the past 2 months and since summer hit, my skin hasn’t been in its best form. This is part laziness and part weather-related however I shan’t complain as for the most part, my skin stabilised after a rough break-out and now the light acne scars are slowly healing.

I have never tried MAC skincare before so my curiosity got the better of me when visiting the MAC counter. Since I needed a new cleanser at the time, I picked up the MAC Lightful C Cleanser**. I’ve used this about a month now and my general opinion of it is that it’s okay. It certainly makes my skin feel clean but I wouldn’t say it improves my skin although it doesn’t make it worse either. For what it’s worth, I’ll keep trying MAC skincare but for this particular one, I most likely won’t re-purchase.

**I can’t find this product on the website either!

Finally, we’re down to the last two products and they are both by Superdrug. I have been particularly lazy with my serum step – does anyone have any recommendations that they can bring to the table please? Anyways, I purchased the Superdrug Calm Skin Hydrating 2in1 Serum & Moisturiser because I remember the range being recommended by Jasmine Talks Beauty. It is certainly hydrating however it wouldn’t be a go-to. I would consider it worthy of travel though as the packaging is secure. Oh and I avoid using it daytime as it seems to conflict with one of my primers and ends up pilling. Re-purchase? Hm, not too soon!

The other product I grabbed was the Superdrug Calm Skin De-Stress Refreshing Facial Spritz. I wasn’t particularly sure of this product at first. The “spritz” effect is a bit strong – let’s just say it’s more like droplets on the face. I also felt like this product broke me out in the first few days although I’m not too sure on that. I may need more monitoring on this one as I don’t reach for it often (which is a sign that I’m not into it). Will feedback again later!

So that’s it for all the products I’ve been trying out which has been a lot.  I’ve been quiet on the blog and on social media but I’m hoping to catch up with it all this coming week.

What are you up to this Sunday? Have you tried any of the products mentioned above?

Happy Sunday! 💜

Oh, you bought some stuff! I’m currently proud of me because I’ve bought some skin care products as well and unfortunately in the past I wasn’t paying attention to them at all so yeah… I hope all that you bought will be good for your skin!

  2. Love your blog! TK Maxx always has something interesting for a cheaper price than normal, I have a few Essie nail polishes from there! I’m new here, please check out my blog if you have time! x

    • Thank you so much!

I love TK Maxx for getting that item where you can’t seem to find anywhere else! I don’t tend to find makeup pieces there but during Christmas I managed to buy a couple of presents from there for friends! 😀 x

  3. Awesome haul! You got a lot of goodies!

I love love love the Kiehl’s Creme de Corps, although I’ve never used the lotion – I do love the body butter though! The Creme de Corps line smells so good.

I have that Tangle Teezer (like in that exact colour) and I love it! My hair gets super tangled after I shower, and this brush works so perfectly. I hope you enjoy it!

I love the Palmer’s coconut lotion since it saves me the step of having to mix in oil with body lotion, but I can totally understand the scent issue. I am curious how you like the BH brushes, I really lack face brushes so I have been considering a BH set for the last few months.

    • Coconut oil is an amazing ingredient but it’s not the most convenient to use on its own. This lotion is such a lovely blend and I find it absorbs nicely without that sticky feeling or heaviness.

I haven’t gotten round to trying every bh brush yet in this set – maybe a good 4 so far however I am really, really impressed with the Flat Top Buffing Brush (123). It may be my favourite face brush to date. It blends my foundation effortlessly – no brush strokes or anything and the finish is just the most beautiful yet natural. I’ll have to try it with more foundations to confirm this but I LOVE how the bristles feel on my face too.

  5. I’m terrible at being on trend as well! I love Palmer’s coconut creams, but I find the oil one is not my favourite. For me, the original is the best, and I believe it has a lot less chemicals in. Interesting about the Aveeno SPF, I’ll certainly be avoiding! It’s a shame it takes so long to rub in.

    • It’s the scent of the original that bugs me but who knows, I might buy it this coming fall as I like to rotate with body lotions. I never seem to just stick to one! Do you have a go-to body lotion?

Yes – don’t bother with the Aveeno one. I really might just consider throwing it in the bin which really, is such a waste but I just don’t like using it one bit.

  6. Kiehl’s Creme de Corps is so lovely! I would love to purchase it more often but it’s expensive for how quickly I go through body lotion.
Have you ever tried the Eucerin lip balm? It is great!
The Maybelline Total Temptation mascara turned quite clumpy on me but I didn’t hate it. Too bad about the L’Oreal Lash Paradise – I quite liked it and I repurchased it already.
I think MAC has discontinued Lightful C range – it’s too bad because I liked that toner. MAC skincare has surprisingly impressed me – I like their Studio Moisture Cream, Strobe Cream, and Fast Response Eye Cream.

    • Yeah – I feel the same way too. It’s expensive which is why I use it so sparingly and intermittently. 😝
I actually haven’t tried the Eucerin lip balm but I’ve heard very good things about it! I just purchased the Nivea lip butter because my LUSH one was getting old and bitty so I thought I needed a fresh new something!
I gave the Lash Paradise a brief try again and I didn’t hate it that time but still leaning less than average for me. I’ve tried a new mascara + primer combination today though and I am in love! 😍 (Shiseido mascara primer + Innisfree Skinny Mascara?)
I want to try more MAC skincare for sure. I’d like to try their cleansing oil and strobe cream. Which one of the strobe creams do you have? And do you apply all over and just the areas you would normally highlight??

  7. I have Avene Mineral Fluid SPF50+ too!!! I literately could use it for Halloween. How strong a white cast can it be?!?!?! Felt like a total idiot… I have the large full size version. it’s like money straight to the bin.

That Bourjois power sounds promising, but they’ve phased it out in France >_< soooo annoying when I spot a promising product and it has been discontinued. The new one has a more bulky packaging, no idea if it works as well.

    • Omg I noticed that in-store over here too! I tried to re-purchase it but noticed there was just the one powder in bulkier packaging too! I was too scared to buy it though in case I didn’t like it as much and well, I have like 3 other powders that I could use up.

Yeah that Avene fluid is just collecting dust on my table. I am really tempted to chuck it away which is such a waste. I can’t even bring myself to use it underneath a foundation lol.
