October Monthly Favourites ft. Naruko, Bare Minerals + NYX

I’ve told you time and time again that Favourites are my favourite to write (along with my Empties post) and somehow, if it were possible, this is the most exciting one I have to share with you! Perhaps it’s due to the fact that this month, it’s much more makeup-heavy than usual (I tend to be more skincare-heavy) and so I’m exploring new heights. I’ve been so excited for autumn/winter and for once in my life, I’m incredibly into makeup.

I mean, I’ve been on a makeup frenzy. I’m generally quite simple with my makeup but a few Mondays ago, I just went for it. I felt like getting a whole load of nude lip colours and I’ve been exploring eyeshadow more too. Don’t hesitate to check out my beauty haul to see what else I got! 🙂

Bare Minerals Bare Pro Liquid Foundation in ‘Warm Natural 12’
Maybelline Color Tattoo in ‘On and On Bronze’
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in ‘Cannes’
NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks
Riverdale
While You Were Sleeping (K-drama)

Don’t waste the leftover serum from the sheet mask!: As my only skincare favourite this month, I’m starting with this one. It’s the Naruko Rose & Botanic HA Aqua Cubic Hydrating Mask EX. [See review here] I’ve been really good with keeping up with my skincare routine overall. The only minor changes are when I use sheet masks; so when I used this after a while, I really noticed the difference with my skin! After masking, there is a lot of leftover serum which I’ve previously disposed. This time, I kept the packet and have been using the serum nightly and I kid you not – there’s over a week’s worth of serum! Anyhow, since using this, it’s like my skin revived and became plumper, more hydrated, more balanced. Love!

Full coverage never felt so light…new favourite foundation: I had been curious about the BarePRO foundations for a while because many people talked positively about the range – both the liquid and powder versions. For me, BareMinerals is one of those brands that caters well to oily, blemished/acne-prone skin. Bare Minerals Bare Pro Liquid Foundation in ‘Warm Natural 12’ is really my new jam! I’m not one for full-coverage but this is beautiful on the skin; and so lightweight. I got colour-matched and made-up, took a sample and that very night, I monitored the oil control and longevity – I barely had to touch up (mostly just my nose). Here I am now with a full-bottle…it’s a winner. I’m looking to review this soon.

Swatch of Maybelline Color Tattoo in ‘On and On Bronze’

I completely understand the hype now: These are not new, nor are they freshly bought but they are still relevant as ever. It’s the Maybelline Color Tattoo in ‘On and On Bronze’ which I bought last winter but didn’t use much. I dug this out a few weeks ago, and the formula is as good as brand new (i.e. not dried up). These are so easy to use, and this shade in particular would suit a lot of skin tones. I’m not one to wear eyeshadow much but this is a really good starter if you want to go a little glam, but still wearable. Plus, you don’t need brushes!

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in ‘Cannes’ which I’d describe as a muted pink that has that mauve undertone, making it very wearable.

The third time’s a charm: NYX has been open in my local Boots store for a while now, but I didn’t buy much that one time except 2 matte lip creams. They smell really nice (almost good enough to eat) but I honestly felt like I picked the wrong shades. (Stockholm and London, if you’re wondering.) I just feel they look a bit funny against my skin tone. This time round, I picked up the NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in ‘Cannes’ and what a change! It’s a muted mauve colour which is perfect for everyday…very wearable and very fitting for the season right now. The formula feels comfortable on the lips and I don’t find them drying. Now, the lasting power isn’t great but I don’t mind re-applying the product.

NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks from L-R: Ruffle Trim, Bedtime Flirt, Exotic and Push-Up

Something new, something nude: I didn’t stop just there with the liquid lipsticks. In fact, it’s my first time trying anything other than lipstick and lip balm. For me, this was going wild because I don’t own much nude lip colours either in my collection. The NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipsticks were all the rage when they released, and I am obsessed! I got the shades Push Up, Bedtime Flirt, Ruffle Trim and Exotic. I find these so wearable and I actually like all the shades I picked out which never happens in the drugstore. I will say though – the doe-foot applicator is a bit weird as it’s not shaped or cushioned. However having said that, I have no trouble with applying this. The lasting power of these are better than the matte lip creams too. I wore Exotic the other day and I didn’t need to touch up whilst I was out!

(…and just to give you an idea of how the doe-foot applicator compare between the two.)

Riverdale-s2

Notice how only the letters D, I and E are lit up in the ‘DINER’ sign. This upcoming season of Riverdale is ready to be dark!

Everything and everyone is getting dark, and I’m living for it: Does anyone here watch Riverdale? I’ve been awaiting for its return for a good few months and I’m excited that it’s back on! Season 2 just started and I’m loving the direction that it’s taking. The characters are written well, and more complex than any other high school drama I’ve seen. The material itself is also getting darker which I find refreshing as it’s removed from soppy puppy love and excessive sugar-coating.

K-drama I’m currently hyping over: I don’t really watch TV anymore but you can bet that I’m watching a K-drama! I’ve been really loving While You Were Sleeping…it’s been a while since I’ve watched one this good. If you’ve been following K-drama recently at all, you’ll know that there’s a huge fantasy-genre trend going on. The concept of this drama is very unique. Essentially, the main female lead dreams of (bad) events in the future that have always taken place and not been false. Sometimes she even wakes up crying from her dream. The goal is then to change the foreseeable future once she realises that this is possible after one event. Honestly, the concept/story, cast, cinematography are the highest of quality that I have ever witnessed in a K-drama. Must-watch!

What have been your favourites lately?

Ironically, I have been without makeup for a few days now (it’s the weekend as I’m typing this) but I would love to post a makeup tutorial soon and challenge myself! I’ve been slowly playing with eyeshadow and am finding myself becoming more confident and comfortable working with colour; so it’ll be nice to show you some results. 😅

  2. It’s a great tip about keeping leftover serum from sheet masks. I should do that!
I just saw Lisa Eldridge talk about that Bare Mineral Pro foundation – now you got me curious.
The Maybelline Color Tattoos are nice on the skin but take it from someone who owned 10 of those pots… they dry out quickly in the tubs. I had to toss my whole collection out after about a year of owning them.
I had drafted up a quarterly favourites list that was meant to show all the things I liked from the summer but since I’ve been away from the blog, it feels too late to post about them now! 😛 But, I want to call out one thing – I’ve been using the Bobbi Brown Soothing Cleansing Oil and it’s fantastic! It removed makeup like a champ and doesn’t leave any residue on my skin, nor does it strip too much off either!

    • That’s fantastic to hear Stashy!! Do you know why?! Cos I just so happened to have purchased that BB Cleansing Oil on Sunday!! 🙈😂 I would’ve been really bummed out if you said it was terrible. I’ve heard their skincare overall is really good so I look to try it out bit by bit. I also purchased their hydrating eye cream – have you tried before?

Oh that’s too bad about the Maybelline Color Tattoos. I own 2 but I only really use 1 of them – I don’t really care for the other colour as there’s too much glitter in it for my liking. One of my best friends has not only hit pan on ‘On and On Bronze’ but has almost devoured a WHOLE pot. I really ought to ask her how long that took. 😝

I saw that same Lisa Eldridge video too. She’s one of my favourites so it was nice to see her using the same foundation too lol.

      • Yes, actually I have tried the Bobbie Brown Hydrating Eye Cream!
I reviewed it in my Trash Stash post from Oct 2015 – the 4th item down. 🙂 I did like it but didn’t love it – I found it not hydrating enough for me. I should have bought the Extra Eye Repair Cream instead as it is more rich.
