No-Buy Phase: What I Won’t Be Buying For A While

As you may have noticed from my recent posts, I’ve been shopping. Some of which, I’ve shared with you already, some are still in-testing and some are…not yet touched. 👀

I have seen these type of posts around but it was never my full intention to create a post of this sort. I guess I didn’t quite anticipate how many products I’m still not using despite having emptied so many. [See: Empties posts] So when I did discover those products in the simple action of opening my drawer or looking in my ‘beauty basket’, I decided I needed to sort out what I wouldn’t be buying for a while! A long while.

These are also products I need to actively start using more of despite me consciously knowing of its existence or throw out, because they’re so old. So, enjoy!

To make things easier, I thought best to organise in categories!

Powders

You know, what’s funny is, I think I broke my own rule. I believe in one of my Empties post, I had said that I wouldn’t buy more than I need per category. For example, for cleansers, I would have what I’m currently using and maybe one queued next to use. Well, that idea’s certainly gone down the drain when it comes to powders because look:

1 queued powder became 3 queued powders in less than a month. 🙈

I’m coming to the end of my current powder: Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder in ‘Pale Yellow’, which is my absolute favourite. The Rimmel Stay Matte in ‘Translucent’ has been tried and tested (this is my second) but the other two are completely new and are curious buys. Once my current compact is empty, I’ll switch it out either for the Bourjois Healthy Balance Unifying Powder in ’52 Vanilla’ or the Innisfree No-Sebum Mineral Pact.

Concealers

I actually don’t use concealer that often which I know is crazy because some swear by them. As it stands, I don’t use make-up often (on average, half of the week I’m makeup-free) but when I do, I can’t guarantee that I will be using concealer! Funny, because I clearly enjoy buying them:

My current concealer is the Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer in ‘Classic Beige’ which is one I love but coming to an end. I feel that I don’t have too much luck in finding a concealer my skin likes hence purchase after purchase. I think I really need to throw away the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealers, not only because they’re old but I actually don’t rate them! Unpopular opinion I know, but the colours are off for me, and they emphasise texture so much. Plus they oxidise.

I haven’t tried the others too much so I guess they’re next in-queue: Innisfree Concealer Stick in ‘2’, Maybelline Instant Anti-Age Rewind Concealer in ‘Light’Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Corrector in ‘Light to Medium Bisque’ and Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Concealer in ‘Beige 6’. (I really ought to use the last two because I spent so much money on them. Oops.)

Brow Products

This is so basic but something I didn’t properly get into until just under two years ago! I’ve improved and perfected my technique so much since day one that this is quite a mandatory step in my routine (although I’m happy with my natural brows too when they’re freshly threaded).

I finished my go-to a few weeks ago actually: the Benefit Precisely My Brow Pencil in ‘6’ which I’m a bit sad about but also excited as I can now test much cheaper alternatives!

I’m currently using the Etude House Drawing Eyebrow in ’01’ and Etude House Drawing Eyebrow Duo in ’01’ interchangeably and honestly, I’m really feeling both these products that I doubt I will buy the Benefit one again.

Also in-queue: Soap & Glory Archery Brow Pencil in ‘Brownie Points’ and the NYX Tame & Frame Tinted Brow Pomade in ’04 Espresso’. I will however, throw away the ELF Eyebrow Kit in ‘Medium’ and the KATE Designing Eyebrow N #EX4  as these are super-old!

Well, that’s everything in my no-buy phase for now. I know I didn’t include any skincare bits like usual but I’m actually doing a great job of using up much of my skincare products. Plus, I feel that skincare is always much easier to use up than makeup. So there you have it…this is my next beauty challenge! 😀

What do YOU need to use up/not buy anymore of?

  1. lol I think face powder and concealer are easy to use up. (Like use concealer as foundation) But brow product is harder to use up. Maybe use them on hair line?
I need to finish my eyeshadows, but I think it is not bad if I practice makeup more.

    • I’ve been using the Bobbi Brown powder since September! I don’t use everyday because I don’t make my face everyday but I do use on most days! I really try especially since I am more oily now in summer, I need to powder, but each time I only need a little lol XD I think that if it was another powder, it wouldn’t last this long so it’s amazing for me.

Ohh concealer as foundation is a good tip. Thank you for reading!

  2. Good luck not being tempted not to buy any more 😉. I think it is good to use one product up a time, I am getting better at that 😄.
On a side note, have you promoted your blog in any Facebook groups before? I have just started my own called Blogs In Bloom- I would love to have you as a member 😄. I have a blog post about it if you need more information, thank you 💕.

    • My spending will just go to skincare instead to be honest. 😂Although this month, I’m being really good. I most likely won’t need to buy anything beauty-related until next month! I find that it’s super rewarding to buy something once you’ve used something similar up…it just means you’re not pointlessly buying things all the time that ends up collecting dust!
I have to say – I’m not on FB a lot AT ALL but I will check it out. 🙂 xx

      • Very true, I don’t like lots of ‘stuff’ hanging around waiting to be used. Okay, no worries 😄

  3. I have so many unopened powders, it’s somewhat embarrassing. I probably have enough powder for the next 6 years! 😮
Good luck with your no-buy endeavours!
I don’t need to buy pencil eyeliner for awhile… I have so many! I do use them daily but one lasts so long and I own so many similar shades. 😛

    • Powders are so addictive to buy, right?! I have a few more on my wishlist but God knows when I’ll buy them 😂

I actually don’t use/buy eyeliner anymore. But that’s only because my eyes, or more specifically, one of my eyelids seems to be sensitive to them. (The skin gets red and kinda dry/rough after 1 or 2 uses.)
