December Monthly Favourites ft. YSL, Boots No7 and The Ordinary Skincare

Alas, it’s the last month of the year! Hopefully you all will have finished your Christmas shopping and wrapped all the presents, ready to gift! 😉 Holiday season is very much among us and quite possibly my favourite time of the year as I love winter, dark nights and hot drinks. (I know, shocking, I’m not that huge of a summer lover even if I am a summer baby.)

This month features some new game-changers in my day-to-day kit that I’d like to share with you as well as some absolute basics:

Skin System Cosmetic Cotton Wool Pads
Towel Hairband
YSL Black Opium Eau De Parfum
Boots No7 Youthful Eye Serum
Clinique All About Eyes
The Ordinary Skincare – Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Serum
Essie Nail Polish in ‘Spin the Bottle’
Cien Hydro Hand Cream
Holland & Barrett Vitamin C-1000mg with Rose Hip Supplement

Shall we start?

Don’t underestimate the need for quality in essentials: Cotton pads. Even if you follow the most basic of skincare routines, you’re bound to use them right? But isn’t cotton cotton? Aren’t they all the same? Honestly, after trying out a few brands – they’re all different depending on how the cotton is bonded and how dense it is. The Skin System Cosmetic Cotton Wool Pads are the best I’ve ever encountered. They are super soft, glide on your skin with no friction and don’t come apart once wet. They make the previous brands I’ve tried mediocre! (FYI – Product is formulated for Asda supermarket in UK.)

The perfect beauty accessory for your whole skincare routine: A few months ago, I purchased a towel hairband from TK Maxx for about £5. (Sorry, I didn’t keep the tag so I don’t know what brand this is however I do recommend TK Maxx’s beauty section.) I started using it more recently and it just makes my life so much easier. I don’t particularly like tying my hair up; and even when I do for beauty purposes, product will get into my baby hairs or hairline. This hairband keeps every hair away from my face, doesn’t slide off and is warming so it’s even more perfect for winter!

Cold winter means smelling like coffee too, not just drinking it: Perfume goes back way longer for me, than makeup does so it has quite a signature place in my heart. YSL’s Black Opium is the newest addition which I bought in January? I’ve used it on some rare occasions but since mid-November, I’ve been using it daily. It’s perfect for winter, where the dark nights weigh in earlier! It has vanilla and coffee notes, sweet  but not overpowering, gets more sensual as time goes on. It’s long-lasting on me – at the end of the night, I can still smell it!

I’ve hacked the secret into softer, hydrated under-eyes: I’ve recently added the Boots No7 Youthful Eye Serum into my skincare routine. I had a £5 No7 voucher so thought this was my chance to try No7 plus I needed a new eye cream as my Clinique All About Eyes ran out. Notice how the former is an ‘eye serum’ though, and being the skincare snob I am at times, I went and repurchased the Clinique eye cream. Hand in hand, these two products work together so well. Both are gel-like so they layer well. Never has my under-eyes been this hydrated and soft before…like it’s drunk a whole load of water!

It’s all about that hydration life: Despite it being cold as is every winter, my skin hasn’t suffered that badly this year. (Yay! for being combination/oily skin type.) But there was a week where I went without a real serum because I had ran out and that’s when I made an order for The Ordinary Skincare. In particular, the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 has taken my fancy immediately. It’s slightly sticky but nothing gross, and absorbs quickly. Dehydrated skin, I couldn’t recommend hyaluronic acid enough! It’s become a staple in my skincare routine and at £5.90, this is a steal!

The chic nail colour for all-year-round: Essie Nail Polish in ‘Spin the Bottle’  Need I say more? I wore it for 7 days straight and it only chipped ever so slightly. Plus the colour is very classic and wearable, a my-nails-but-better colour if you will.

Soft, hydrated hands doesn’t have to be expensive: Cheap as chips. You can’t go wrong with Cien Hydro Hand Cream which can be purchased at Lidl. It’s quite fast absorbing and not overly thick so you can return to your work desk shortly if you wish. I won’t dwell too long on this – just go try it sometime!

The supplement you need in your cupboard every winter: Forget the cough syrups or the cold meds. You’re surrendering to your weaknesses, the aftermath. Vitamin C is the real deal, the prevention. I’ve had the Holland & Barrett Vitamin C-1000mg with Rose Hip Supplement over a year now, but I’m an awful human being who ‘forgets’ to take supplements. I started to take them again recently, daily, consistently – and I feel a real difference. I’m less tired,  more energetic and it’s helped to fight the cold off, twice. I couldn’t recommend these enough plus they aid in collagen production. Win/win!

I’m posting this a bit early because it’s holiday season, so I’m away for a few days here and there. Happy holidays everyone! Enjoy your time with loved ones no matter where you are, and I’ll see you soon!  🙂 ❤

I will most likely post a year-end favourites soon too (or something similar) – the best of the best, so stay tuned.

What have been your favourites this month? This year?

    • Right?! I’m so glad I took the plunge to try out a new product. I don’t think I’ll be changing eye products any time soon! 🙂
